Fiddle virtuoso Stewart Hardy and Scottish guitarist/piper Frank McLaughlin posses a rare musical kinship, holding listeners spellbound with their interplay as they explore music rooted in the traditions of Scotland, the Borders and Northumberland while incorporating sensibilities from the worlds of classical, blues, klezmer and jazz.
As a duo they perform traditional and contemporary tunes stripped back to the bare essentials of fiddle, guitar and Scottish smallpipes. With their long-term collaboration, they have achieved a deep and instinctive understanding of each other’s musical interpretations. The unique and versatile approach Stewart and Frank bring to their music, combined with their ability to draw on a wide variety of styles, produces an uplifting and joyous performance.
All tickets £10

Join well known musician Andy Craig in our lovely Long Room as he takes a journey around Northumberland in photographs, songs and music.
Andy Craig has been a professional photographer since 2005 and has been photographing the Northumberland Coast since he moved to the area in 2008. “earning a living from photography is a fantastic way of life and it has allowed me to explore the art of photography and delve deeply into the creative process.” “My music and my photography go hand in hand for me so it seemed appropriate to combine the two together into this music & photography presentation.” Andy feels that it is the same creative process that informs photography and music “it is about seeing, feeling or experiencing a moment out in nature and then passing that moment on to an audience so that they can share the atmosphere and hopefully see the world through my eyes.”
“Andy Craig is a local singer/songwriter and guitarist whose home-spun tales of life on the coast are reflected in beautiful songs like “All This Is Ours” and “Home” and in evocative instrumentals.
“A professional photographer by day, Andy transfers the skills of capturing exceptional images to his music.” Blues in Britain

Joan has had a passion for painting and drawing ever since she won her first painting competition at the age of four years and 10 months. Although the majority of Joan's work involves painting basically anything with fur or feathers, she has over the years depicted many landscape, botanical and geological compositions. In addition, she take on commissioned paintings, ranging from dogs, cats and horses, to cows, pigs, badgers and the strangest request of all, a Puma - fortunately never sighted in person!
Her favourite medium is gouache, which Joan believe gives her the ability as an artist to capture not only the subtle colours and textures of an animal's coat, but also great depth and a detailed yet sympathetic reality to each painting.
Joan lives with her husband Ian in a renovated, stone-built, Victorian cottage in Shotley Bridge. Surrounded by this peaceful and picturesque area of the North East of England countryside, she does not have to look far for inspiration. You can see more of her work on her website www.joanmurrayanimalart.co.uk
The evening starts at 7.30pm.
Free entry. Refreshments will be available and proceeds will go to Macmillan nurses.
Joan is also teaching an Everyone can Paint workshop on April 16th for only £40 including coffee, cake and lunch. Contact the Gallery for more information.
